Seasons...

There's an old proverb that declares that there is a time and a place for everything. That everything has a season, a time to be born and a time to die...a time to laugh and a time to cry. It's not a complicated process but we seem to struggle with it a lot. We don't like seasons..if we had it our way we would always have sun and no rain, laughter and no tears.

In my own life there has been many times that I have went out of my way to try and control seasons. Not only was it stupid of me but it was also very arrogant and control freak like. As hard as I tried I couldn't stop the seasons of life from changing. People left me, bad things happened or whatever the case was, but one thing was clear I  was not in control of things.

These days my challenge is, instead of trying to control or avoid the seasons of life, to try and be prepared for when they change, and to enjoy the good seasons while they are around. I realize that I must challenge myself to make the most out of every moment because the season can and will change. I am writing this today because I know that it is important for me to remember..and the truth is that

With A Child's Heart...

I recently published an article on AC Content titled "Early Morning Football." In the article I chronicled my adventures with my grandson and our  football games we used to have each morning.

He spent the summer with us and we were all sad when it was time for him to leave. Although it was just a short time, I learned a lot during his stay. Spending time with and playing with him brought back memories of when my children were his age.

I found myself remembering all of our adventures. Remembering how easily entertained my children were (and still are) I found myself remembering how precious time really is and how fast it passes us by.

In the case of my grandson, we knew that our time with him was limited so we focused on making the most out of the time we had with him. In the big scheme of things that is  how it really is...our time is short and we really should be focusing on making the most of it.

My time with my grandson serves as a reminder for me to make the most of my time, to soak up every minute I can with the people I love and to do all that I can to show them that I love and care for them. I have  remind myself daily to make the most of each day because as important as it is to remember...the truth is...
sometimes I forget

Sometimes I forget...

One of the easiest ways to become miserable and ungrateful is to forget. Forget where you came from, or forget all of the positive things and focus only on the negative. Forget which things are important and forget how fragile and valuable time is.

I have done all of the above during my lifetime. From those times I have learned that there are some important things that I need to remember and that by remembering these things I can actually enjoy life better and possibly make a difference while I am here on this earth.

I am committing some of those things I need to remember to being inked in this blog...who knows maybe the things that I need to remember will help someone else as well.

I had wanted to do this a long time ago...but sometimes I forget...

Gr - Attitude

This year marks eighteen years of marriage for me. As I look back it seems like only yesterday that we were married. Looking back I also notice that some of the other couples that started out at the same time (and a few who were ahead of us) are no longer together.

Being the analyst that I am I couldn't help wondering why it is that we are still here, happy and looking forward to the next eighteen and they are not. In many of those cases I can clearly see that they forgot...

They forgot about the happy times and the fun things they did together. They forgot about how lonely and out of place they were before they found each other. They even forgot that even during the bad times they still had each other.

Looking at my own behavior during the past 18 years I can see that during the times I wasn't having fun, that it was a memory problem for me as well. I had forgotten all about the good and was focusing on what I considered to be bad. I forgot all about what I did have and focused mainly on the things I didn't.

I am learning that when I remember the good times and when I focus on what I have, I actually become more grateful. Instead of just dwelling on the negative I flood my thoughts with memories of all of the good and again I am grateful.

These past 18 years I have had to remind myself to make the choice to be grateful and to remember the good, and for the most part I do. There are however days when I slip up...I know that I should remain grateful...but the truth is...

sometimes I forget
